A Conversation with United States Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas P’22

“One of the things I love about Colby is its motto. Dare Northward has profound meaning not just for the student experience, but for life. Dare means to explore, and exploration is what education is all about. How do you know where your real interests lie and where your real passions lie unless you know what else is out there?” – United States Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas P’22

During a virtual event on May 18 presented by the Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and hosted by its executive director, Kimberly Flowers, United States Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas P’22 spoke about his new role as part of President Joe Biden’s cabinet, his aim for transformational change, his perspective as a Colby parent, and his thoughtful advice for students as they dare to make their mark in the world.

The Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs connects the Colby community to our nation’s most pressing current events, fosters awareness of the role of public policy, and inspires active citizenship. It sparks thought-provoking conversations and creates networking opportunities for students interested in public affairs. These experiences would not be possible without the generosity of alumni, family, and friends of the College.
